Nike Basketball
Harlem Team Branding
I designed the branding for Nike Basketball’s Harlem team for the Battle of the Boroughs tournament. Rather than starting with an existing typeface, I used one of my own custom alphabets as the basis for the logo.

Branding applied to team jerseys

Nike released a pair of white AF1s with the Harlem logo laser etched into the back right side, as part of the NYC borough pack.

As well as Team Harlem Hyperfuse sneakers.

And the branding was applied to in-store signage.

L’usine
Identity, Branded Poster & Script Logotype Design
L’usine is a retail space, café, and gallery in the heart of Saigon. For their new Le Loi retail space and café I worked with Anthony Nguyen to design a “branded poster” in the style of vintage French poster art, which was rendered as a 6′ x 9′ wall painting inside the shop.

Society of Scribes
Logotype & Identity

As part of the Society of Scribes redesign we created a new logotype, working with master calligrapher Alice Koeth, founding member of the organization. The new logotype references the original lettering created for the organization in 1974, but has been completely retooled and redesigned in the horizontal orientation for more effective and consistent use across print, web, and digital communications.

Shred Aloha
Brush Lettering
I created the “Shred Aloha” brush lettering for a custom surfboard with JC Hawaii.
JC Hawaii, founded by master surfboard shaper John Carper, is know for making boards of the highest quality for world-class professional surfers such as Shane Dorian, Peter Mel, Sean Moody and many others.
Some sketches I did for the brush lettering (above).
Kidrobot
Custom typography & Branding
An internationally acclaimed producer of designer toys and limited edition apparel, kidrobot is known as an innovative trend setter. It has been featured MoMA and the Cooper Hewitt Museum of Design, and its clothing is sold in Barney’s as well as its own retail stores. We created the custom typography as well as the scattered hand pattern to be used in branding throughout the mens and womens clothing lines.

Independent Truck Co.
Graphic Design & Packaging Design
One of the most recognizable and respected brands in all of skateboarding, Independent Truck Co. has become an international label with full clothing and accesories lines in addition to the namesake hardgoods. The challenge with Independent was to appeal to the contemporary skater without alienating the long time supporters. We achieved this by creating fresh designs while maintaining a timeless look for sustained brand integrity.
The graphics adhere to an strict formula and overall look while deviating very slightly in the decorative details, flourishes and techniques. Creative packaging was another outlet for innovation and a way of adding new appeal to conventional products, such as the “back pocket” packaging for a bandana.

Type@Cooper
Logotype Design
Logotype created for Ken Barber’s workshop on The Drawn Letter as part of the Typeface Design Program at The Cooper Union.
Tokyo to Osaka
Art Direction & Logotype Design
Tokyo to Osaka is a documentary, by filmmaker Nic Hill of Piece by Piece acclaim, about a group of cyclist who travel to Japan to ride fixed gear bikes between the two metropolitan centers of Japan.

Judgement Day
Logotype Design & Packaging Design
When he’s not playing in Connor Oberst’s band Bright Eyes, violinist Anton Patzner is one half of Judgement Day along with his brother Lewis on cello. The creative reflects the dark classicism of their heavy yet refined sound they call “string metal.” The monogram logo, with interlocking J D, was created for use across platforms from print and video to a variety of merchandise.

Rose
Logotype Design
An award winning independent film by Hoku Uchiyama, “Rose” is a story about the ghost of a murdered teenage girl. More than a ghost story, it is a rural American tale of secrets, friendships, and growing up. Pen-and-ink hand lettering was employed to get just the right feel for this logotype.
